Sundhage brings in 30 players for Sweden training camp

[U.S. WOMEN] U.S. women’s national team head coach Pia Sundhage called in all 21 players from the team that finished second at the 2011 Women’s World Cup for a two-week training camp in Arizona to prepare for the USA’s final international match of the year against Sweden on Nov. 19 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. The nine other players called up include two college players: UCLA striker Sydney Leroux and Georgetown midfielder Ingrid Wells.

More than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the game against Sweden, which beat the USA, 2-1, in the first round of the World Cup and also defeated the Americans by the same score in China in January. The Swedes will look to become only the second team to beat the USA as many as three times in a row. (Norway has beaten the USA four times in a row twice, in 1992-94 and 2000-2002.)

Other players called up include Ashlyn Harris, who was named the WPS Goalkeeper of the Year after helping lead the Western New York Flash to the 2011 championship, and Whitney Engen was the WPS Defender of the Year for her work in front of Harris with the Flash.
